Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Treatment Is Suggested For This Result Obtained From Sonogram?
My 14 month old son recently had a sonogram done on his forehead and nose for a vein that has been visible since birth. The sonogram revealed that he could be missing bone under this vein. He has now been referred for a CT scan of the same area. Then it is possible that he will be referred to a neuro doctor of some kind. This whole process started with our dermatologist who he has been seeing for a hemangioma on his bottom lip. Totally unrelated but she had us go in for the sonogram for the vein on his nose and forehead. My question is, have you heard of this before?? And if so, what is the likely diagnosis and treatment??Will surgery be required ???What will the ct scan reveal???Please advise. We are kind of freaking out about all this new news. Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, It is evident from your history that there is a suspicion of a structural defect in bones of face and that defect is replaced by blood vessel tumor- a hemangioma. A CT scan is definitely required to assess the underlying bony skeleton of face. The exact details will be evident after CT scan of face. Further management will depend on the result of CT scan. In case the bony defect is present, bone graft will be required to repair the bony defect. The management will be done by a cosmetic surgeon and an orthopedician. Thus, get a CT scan initially and get it reviewed by your consulting doctor for further management.
