What Will Happen If I Stop Taking Cardizem Which Was Prescribed For Atrial Fibrilliation Episode?
Hello, my husband had an atrial fibrilliation episode around a month ago because of high alcohol consumption. He was given Cardizem once a day and a blood clot anticoagulant named Plavix. Although he still taking Plavix, he finished the Cardizem and refuses to go to his cardiologist for a refill. What could be the effects if he stops taking Cardizem suddenly?
Dear Mam,
I request you not to under estimate the Atrial Fibrillation , it can have very bad consequences.
If his Atrial Fibrillation was transient , he might not require drugs, depending on the initial cause. But if it is permanent or the cause was not 100% clearly found , he may require to take drugs life long.
That can be made clear by getting an ECG , and meeting your old doctor , he must be knowing the details.
Stopping Cardizem can lead to abrupt increase in heart rate and a fresh episode of Atrial Fibrillation.
So i advise you to convince him to meet your doctor as soon as possible.
