What Would The Hard Lump Behind The Uvula With Ear Pain Be?

Hi, my husband has a hard lump the size of a big pea behind his uvula, he's had it for two weeks, it's uncomfortable and affects his ability to breathe freely. He's a smoker. He has also had ear pain recently, but does have issues with his ears ordinarily. He hasn't lost weight and feels okay in himself£

Any ideas?!i

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome in HCM.

I understand your concern, as you said about a lump behind the uvula of your husband with pain in his ear the possibilities are -

1- Polyp (anterochonal polyp).

2- Enlarged adenoids - Mostly the adenoids are found in children but some times found in adults as well.

Any of above may block the opening of eustachian tube at pharyngeal end and that may give rise to blockade in ear and pain.

You are advice for-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Anti-histaminic and decongestant.

3- Tab Paracetamol.

4- Adequate fluids orally.

Probably above answers your query with solution.

Thanks for consulting HCM.
