Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When I was 14 I wrecked my motorcycle. I just hit gravel at a speed of about 35 m.p.h. in a parking lot and fell. When I did I went to the hospital for leg injuries. I had a class IV fracture on both ends of my growth plates as well as having torn ligaments throughout the leg and breaking my ankle. I was told I would need corrective surgery and was referred to a specialist. They wrapped the leg in a soft cast and sent me on my way. Within two days of the accident I went to the specialist upon appointment and they ran some more MRI's and x-rays and said I will need surgery and extensive therapy and didn't know if I would continue growing or if it would stunt my growth. The issue that he had was that I was young and he basically said he, "didn't want to touch it". So i was reffered again to Oklahoma's pediatric hospital. Upon arriving two weeks later ( still in the soft cast ) they determined i would need surgery. Well, since I was 6' at 14 they implied I was "too big" and they didn't want to "touch it". I was reffered yet again to a specialist and he said it needed surgery but the plates had already set and he set me up in a hard cast. Well, I am 19 as of this week and have had several minor injuries concerning my leg whilst just doing menial task. ( Nothing that requires extensive straining on my leg ) Well today I started to feel as if I had a gelatin like substance inside my knee and I'm concerned. I get a sharp pain every four of five steps. The only difference is know I have no health insurance and I don't know if I should just stay off of it for a while and hope for the best or just go get it checked bfore it may worsen? Also, does that all sound very.. professional above? Not wanting to work on itand being reffered to the point that my growth plates had setand surgery was no longer a concern for the time being and that telling me I will probably need corrective surgery in my early to mid twenties?
