Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When Can Azithromycin Be Taken After Cipro Intake?
I took Cipro at 8 am this morning. it was my last dose for a GI problem. How long should i wait to start taking Azithromycin prescribed to me on Friday to start today? Also should i be worried about the GI problems i read about on line that are caused by Azithromycin. I have had diarrhea for a week already. online sources say Azithromycin will cause further irritation. I have a history GI infections and diverticulitis.
There are no interactions between azithromycin and ciprofloxacin, this means that you can use the two at the same time, it also means that there is no definite waiting period between discontinuing one and starting the other.
As you stated, azithromycin can cause GI disturbance. The use of probiotics may help to decrease the GI effects that occur.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
