When Can An Infant Be Started On Solid Food?

Hi...my baby is now a 4months old girl. is it safe to start giving her solid foods like mashed potatoes, fruits like avocado,banana, fruit juices and cereal cerelac? i think breast milk and formula are no longer enough for her to enhance her nutritional growth...PLease advise...

Hello. Thank you for your question. The current recommendation is to begin solid foods between four and six months of age. Different pediatricians have different opinions on what to start with. Most would agree, however, that starting with cereal is best. Fruit juices are not needed. Fruits and vegetables are great. Just be careful to not start two new foods on the same day. Always leave 2-3 days between new foods.
