When Can Vaccination Be Taken To Treat Asthma Secondary To Pneumonia?
I was recently admitted to the hospital through the ER. Diagnosis was asthma secondary to pneumonia. I have a history of asthma that usually flares secondary to something ie: bronchitis. I have completed a course of Zithromax (I am allergic to a large number of oral and IV antbiotics) but I am still on prednisone. How soon can I get a pneumonia vaccine. I have Osteonecrosis of the hips and knees and have had difficulty dealing with post op infections. I want to limit my risk so would like to be vaccinated as soon as possible.
1. As recommended by CDC: people with asthma and COPD are at increased risk of pneumococcal disease and have advised that all asthmatics in the age group of 19-64 years. You should receive the pneumococcal vaccine as early as possible, since vaccines are one of the safest ways for you to protect your health, even if you are taking prescription medications for your current problem.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
