Hi, usually after any abdominal surgery, patients gets paralytic ileus means no bowel movements up to 2 to 3 days. After that bowel movements starts gradually. If your partner is getting cramps and diarrhoea, then there must be some sort of infective component in intestine which causes hyper bowel movements and cramps due to loss of important electrolytes like sodium, potassium with loss of fluid in defecation. This is immediately consulted to your operating surgeon and get treated accordingly.
