When Does Menopause Begin?

I am a 50 years old women and I just want to know when will I enter the menopause and stop having my periods. My periods are still regular but the blood seems clean form day one and the bleeding last up to 10 days or more. It is a torture! What are the signs that this will come to an end?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Menopause varies between individuals and generally it can happen anytime between 45 to 55. Irregular periods and abnormal bleeding are quite common in people nearing their menopause and indicates the end stages of their periods. No specific treatment is required. If the irregular cycles persist for more than three months, consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
