When Is Surgery Recommended To Correct Webbed Toes For A 2-month-old?
My 2 months old has webbed toes between her second and third toenails on both right and left feet. I know it has no effect on her activities or wont harm her in any way, but as a girl i am afraid she will be self concious about it when she grows older. I want to consider surgery. When is it the right time to do it? Is it gona be painful for her? Will it give us a hard time as parents post surgery? And how much will it cost?
Syndactyly, a condition that causes webbed or fused toes or fingers, is one of the most common types of birth abnormality. It occurs when the toes or fingers do not separate correctly during fetal development. Syndactyly may appear as a symptom of another syndrome or medical condition, but most cases are non-syndromic, meaning that they have no apparent cause. Hence, kindly rule out syndromes such as Down syndrome, Apert syndrome, Crouzon syndrome. Corrective surgery is done between the ages of 12 and 18 months before full development has happened. It is best to fix webbed toes before they can cause any joint malformation.
