Hi,
Mala-D is a combined oral
contraceptive (birth control) pill which contains two hormones (
Levonorgestrel &
Ethinyl estradiol). Following sex it can be taken as 4 tablets twice at an interval of 12 hours but within 72 hours of
unprotected intercourse. It must be given as early as possible after an unprotected intercourse in order to achieve maximum protection.
Otherwise one tablet of Mala-D to be taken every day for 21 days, then stop for seven days, and during this week you have a period like bleeding. You start taking the pill again after seven days. You need to take the pill at around the same time every day. If you begin taking Mala-D on the first day of your period (day one of your menstrual cycle) you will be protected from
pregnancy straight away. You will not need additional
contraception. If you begin begin taking Mala-D on the fifth day of your period you will not be protected from pregnancy straight away and will need additional contraception such as condoms until you have taken the pill continuously for seven days.
Generally it is well tolerated by most women however, it may cause headache, nausea, breast tenderness and mood swings, it can increase your blood pressure.
Breakthrough bleeding and spotting is common in the first few months of using the pill.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
