Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When Is The Right Time During Pregnancy To Take Rhogam Due To Being Rh Negative?
if you are Rh negative and you carry (to term) and what put during your pregnancy should you receive Rhogam? Do you receive this injection just once right after the baby is born or at 28 weeks which is what I am hearing. Is it a one time thing or more than once. I am speaking only as an uncomplicated pregnancy carrying a full term infant. Thanks . My e mail address is YYYY@YYYY .
I appreciate your concern for the timing of giving Rhogam to a Rh negative mother. Women with Rh-negative blood are given an injection of Rhogam at 28 weeks of pregnancy and within 72 hours after delivery of a baby who has Rh-positive blood, even after a miscarriage or an abortion.
Any woman who is Rh-negative and having a child with a father who is Rh-positive or Rh-unknown is at risk for Rh incompatibility.
During a first pregnancy, Rh sensitization is unlikely because no significant amount of the fetus’s blood is likely to enter the woman’s bloodstream until delivery. However, a woman becomes sensitized during delivery. Once she is sensitized, problems are more likely with each subsequent pregnancy if the fetus’s blood is Rh-positive.
Hope to have answered your question. Regards.

When Is The Right Time During Pregnancy To Take Rhogam Due To Being Rh Negative?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. They are also given an injection after any episode of vaginal bleeding and after amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling.
