When Is The Right Time To Check For Pregnancy After Delayed Periods?
Last Thursday night, my girlfriend and I had sex and towards the end of the session, the condom broke. She does not use birth control. I was able to pull out and ejaculate. However, I don t know if the first load was in or out of her. The next morning (Friday), we went to Walgreen s and got Plan B One step. She did take it that morning, so it was less than 24 hours. Her period was supposed to be that Sunday. (So we had sex two days before her period started) Today is Friday (five days later) and she hasn t had her period yet. Yes, she s been stressing out about it for the past week. What are the chances that she is pregnant? I ve been reading all online boards and it seems that it is normal that her period is a few days late? How long should we wait until we test for pregnancy? What do you think?
OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Dr. Prabha 's Response
Hello,
From what you are saying you had accidental rupture of condoms for which emergency contraception taken, and you had contact again, all these happened few days prior to her expected period dates, now her periods are delayed. Well in the first place you need not have taken emergency contraception because it happened during a safe period. Chances of pregnancy remote. Wait for five more days. Your periods should set in if not consult a gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
