When Should Amitriptyline And Lansoprazole Be Taken?
Hi, I m currently taking Amitriptyline 50mg, which I take last thing at night and Lanzoprasole 30mg first thing in the morning and 30mg before going to bed. My question is, which medication do I take last and how far apart (in time) should they be taken?
Amitriptyline drug should be taken at bed time. Proton pump inhibitor (PPIs) drugs like Lansoprazole should be taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before a meal (usually breakfast) if taken once daily.
If taken twice daily than the schedule would normally be 30 minutes prior to the first meal of the day and then 30 minutes prior to the dinner meal of the day.
The reason for the timing is that it takes approximately 30 minutes to achieve steady state drug levels in the bloodstream. This then enables the maximum number of proton pumps to be turned off.
The antidepressant drug Amitriptyline should be taken at least 2 hours after the dinner i.e., the last medication to be taken before going to bed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
