General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We recommend starting the contraceptive pill on day second of the bleeding. If you start it during your periods, your protection starts straight away and you can resume your sexual activity anytime.

However, if the pill is started on other days (i.e. not during periods), you need to wait for a week.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
