Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When Should I Take Diltazem Tablet For High Resting Heart Rate And Cholesterol?
I currently take lotensin HCT 20/25 in the morning and 50mg Lopressor at night. I have an extremely hight resting heart rate (100 - 143) as well as high cholesterol. I saw a cardiologist and he added 180mg of Diltiazem and told me to take it at night. When I picked up the prescription, the pharmacist told me I should take it in the morning. I can't speak with the doctor because it is Saturday. What would you suggest I do?
Diltiazem and Metoprolol (Lopressor) – both can depress the heart rate – take care! They belong to different class though… Since you are already on Lopressor at night, this be better taken in the morning… You can even hold it for a day or two until you could discuss with your doctor! A steady state level will be reached in a few days and the timing may not matter, subsequently… The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.
Wishing well
