When Will My 40-year-old Brother Recover From Alcoholic Cirrhosis Completely?
My 40 yr old brother has alcoholic cirrhosis and I believe he is in the final stage. He sleeps all the time, confused, does not eat, swelling belly and cant walk. My older brother took him to the hospital this morning and I am awaiting word on his condition. I have been reading on this and it doesn t sound good. 2 years ago the Dr. and nurses prepared us for his departing in ICU but he fought and made it out of ICU and now were back to the hospital. We just lost our mother 02/14/16 and its back to making medical decisions again. Will he be comfortable should this be it for him? What will the Dr s do to make him comfortable?
Alcoholic cirrhosis with state of confusion, abdominal swelling and difficulty in walking are symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy. This is an irreversible stage and only supportive care can be given. Supportive care can provide him the required care and comfort.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
