Melasma is brownish(light to dark) pigmentation over the sun exposed parts of the face (commonly affects nose and malar areas and sometimes also the
upper lip, area just above the eyebrows and forehead too.)
Diet has no role whatsoever in either causing it OR for improving it.
The origin of melasma can be hormonal, drug induced(NSAIDs) but it is idiopathic most of the times.
Management of melasma consists of 2 major components:
>Sun protection with a borad spectrum sunscreen effective against both UVA and UVB.
>Demelanising creams containing one or more of the following ingredients:
Hydroquinone,
kojic acid,
glycolic acid, arbutin, vit C etc in various combinations
I would advice that you visit a
dermatologist who would suggest you a good broad spectrum sunscreen according to your skin type and a demelanising cream.
