Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have a disease affecting my blood sugar. It usually is low and thought previously to have been an insulanoma. My two granddaughters now have the same disease and wonder if you can tell me what the disease is called. I had half of my pancreas removed in 1990 due to them thinking it was insulanoma. Thanks, any help would be appreciated. My grandchildren are 3 & 5 and have both been hospitalized for it. I don t want to pay for this answer. It is generally a good question. Just want the name of the disease. You can just email me and thank you again
This is suggestive of insulinoma. Based on the history you seem to have had suffered from insulinoma and most probably your granddaughters also appear to have same problem. Insulinoma is a non-cancerous tumor of the pancreas. It produces large amount of insulin which can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) resulting in confusion, sweating, weakness, rapid heartbeat and sometimes convulsions and coma.
Its exact cause is unknown however, people with specific genetic syndromes such as multiple endocrine neoplasia type I, Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 1, and tuberous sclerosis are at risk of insulinomas and other endocrine tumors. Removing the tumor will solve the problems.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
