Which Doctor Should I Consult For Diagnosis And Treatment Of Fibromyalgia?
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia roughly 15 years ago. I have managed it with medication since. However it is worsening. What type of doctor I would specialize in diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia? I know there has been broader understanding of this ailment since I was seen previously.
Hi. Welcome to HCM. Fibromyalgia syndrome is mainly characterized by pain, fatigue, and sleep disruption. The etiology of fibromyalgia is still unclear. Several factors such as dysfunction of the central and autonomic nervous systems, neurotransmitters, hormones, immune system, external stressors, psychiatric aspects, and others seem to be involved. The goals of fibromyalgia treatment are to alleviate pain, increase restorative sleep, and improve physical function through a reduction in associated symptoms. A multifaceted treatment approach is often required including both nonpharmacological pain management strategies and medication. A single doctor cannot treat ur condition. It needs treatment from Physician, Immunologist, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapist , Behavioral therapist. I suggest you to consult an immunologist if u hav not done so. But keep in mind he alone is of no benefit to u. All the best.
