Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Which Is Better, Melaxicam 15mg Or Relafen 500 Mg?
I was originally on Melaxicam 15mg but my dr took me off due to his thinking that it causes more damage to the kidneys and heart attacks and put me on Relafen 500mg saying it s better and safer. reading about both meds it seems to be just as bad if not worse. which is the better for osteoarthritis?
Both of these medications are not safe for kidneys as well as for heart. Meloxicam and Relafen are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) commonly used to reduce pain, swelling, and joint stiffness from arthritis. They act by decreasing the prostaglandin levels. Decreased prostaglandins will impair the kidney functions resulting in sodium and water retention and thus increase the blood pressure. For the treatment of osteoarthritis, Paracetamol is recommended as the first line of treatment. It is not known to damage the kidney hence can be safely used in patients with heart disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
