Which Of The Following Treatments Are Recommended For Spinal Stenosis And Spodylosis?

I have spondyliosis, facet arthropy and severe stenosis in my spine and chronic pain. I use a 100mcg fentynal patch. I am also facing surgery for compressed nerves that are affecting my walking and will to a greater degree in the short future. Surgery choices are: Dr. 1- remove hardware in lower spine and insert more to reach further up (L4 and 5?) Dr. 2 - replace two discs, and four days later laminate two vertebrae. Which one is better for a 78 yr old woman in fairly good health.(type II dia. and cardiomyopathy)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The treatment options for spinal stenosis and spondylosis varies according to the underlying severity of the symptoms and clinician or operating ortho surgeon choice.

However, I can recommend a single stage surgery of removal of hardware in lower spine and insert more to reach further up rather than opting for 2 step surgeries at 78 years age with diabetes and cardiomyopathy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
