Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Mr. Brown, an 86-year-old patient with suspected colon cancer, underwent a colonoscopy. A large mass was found 12 centimeters proximal to the splenic flexure. Which part of the colon is this located in? Trace the route of the colonoscope to the location of the mass
Hello and welcome to HCM I have read and understood your query I hope this will help you. Colon is anatomically devided in to three parts: ascending colon, transverse colon and descending colon. The transverse colon extends from hepatic flexure to splenic flexure..the mass you are describing is located in transverse colon. The of route that colonoscope traverses to reach the growth will be as follow(from anal opening upwards): Anal opening-anal canal-rectum- sigmoid colon-splenic flexure of transverse colon- transverse colon. I hope I answered your query Regards Dr faeza
