Which Specialist Should We Contact Regarding Worsening Symptoms Of Possible UTI-induced Delirium And Confusion?

Hello, I m contacting you due to issues with my mother-in-law. She has what is supposedly UTI-induced delirium, but we are worried it is worse than that. The ER has wrote it off twice now as just that, but she has been on antibiotics for a week, and now has been on them again for 2 days, but these symptoms seem to only be getting worse. Mainly, we do not know who to contact. Would it be her insurance, her PCP, or someone else? We are very worried because she has been having imaginary phone calls, insisting things exist that do not, and making horrible financial decisions that my wife and I have to undo. Thank you so much for your time

Hi,

The symptoms are of illusion, delusion or hallucinations. Hence, in my opinion, you may see a psychiatrist in this regards. The psychiatrist may also advise you for further imaging of Brain to rule out age related atrophy of brain or some other pathology, which may give rise to such symptoms including symptoms of confusion / delirium etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
