While At Work, I Was Doing A Lot Of Kneeling

While at work, I was doing a lot of kneeling on hard floor, putting stock on the shelves. By end of my shift and by time I got home, my right knee cap starting hurting such that I had trouble walking on it. It does not appear to be swollen. I have since put a heating pad on it, and am now wearing a knee brace which helps me get around. Should I go to doctors to get it checked out and or to hospital for X-Rays? Is applying heat an appropriate thing to do? I see no evidence of bruising either.
