General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
sorry to hear that.

Let me answer that most probable cause of white cheesy layer is fungal infection called candidiasis.
the other may be cause is known as leukoplakia. lets dive deeper
1) candidiasis -is a fungal infection which tend to occur in moist areas of body like tongue/throat,
reason for getting a infection is mostly compromised immune system (immune - defense system)
and causes for the low immunity are as follow
a) genetic disorder
b) bone marrow cancer
c) HIV/aids
2) leukoplakia : its a layer of white stuff which is hard to remove and will stay permanently on the surface but not associated with any swelling as in your case, and mostly seen in smokers and can be considered as an early sign for cancer.

ADVICE:
consult a physician in your locality ask him to check you for above mention cause,
here is mostly they tend to do
1) will do physical exam
2) visual inspection.
3) do some some blood test and do and HIV TEST.
4) if necessary the may check for some tissue (biopsy in case of leukoplakia)
5) Lastly will treat with antiviral drugs if HIV is positive and will give some antifungal gargle in case of candidiasis. and case of leukoplakia the will ask you to stop smoking and keep an eye on it.

Hope it helps
