Whitish Skin Coming Out From A New Born Girl's Vagina. Normal?
I have a newborn girl and her vagina has what i can best describe as a whitish skin coming out of the hole. it isnt discharge and shes 4 days old. its like whte skin and when i tried to clean it it doesnt come out. she was discharged from the hospital and they said she was perfect but im worried becuase i dont know what is supposed ti look like. im making an appointment tomorrow but if can help me before i would very much appreciate it.
I can appreciate your concern. It is very common to see a tag of mucus membrane to project out as described by you. You need not worry about it as it will normalize in the next few days. You were correctly conunselled by the hospital at the time of discharge. Nevertheless you can consult your doctor tomorrow.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Congratulations on your baby. The first few days after birth the child is still under the influence of the mothers hormones (which are in abundance during pregnancy and childbirth). Due to this, the vagina secretes thick mucus and this may appear as 'white skin'. It will resolve with time. Also sometimes these hormones may cause the breast of the newborn girl to secrete some fluid - called 'witches milk' in the old days. This again will resolve with time.
Please be reassured and contact your doctor only if it persists beyond 2 weeks
