Who Treats An Abrupt Double Vision Problem For A 97-year-old Woman?
My 97 year old mother in law awakened last night unable to see, she could tell if the room was light or dark, but nothing else. later that morning she said she could see, but has double vision... we are not sure the best approach to take her to a regular physician or an ophthalmologist...
Conditions affecting both eyes and brain might cause these symptoms. Retinal diseases like retinal artery occlusion and neurological problems like stroke or TIA (transient ischemic attack) may cause similar symptoms.
Consult a neurologist and get evaluated. An MRI brain is required as a preliminary investigation. A cross consultation with an ophthalmologist is also required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
