Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife, 67 years of age, has a lump or a bump on the scalp, about 1 in diameter and 3/8 in height. She has the condition for several months, without any apparent discomfort. Only when pressed by hand, this lump gives a slight pain or discomfort. We are now considering checking with a doctor. What kind of doctor should we see? A dermatologist?
The symptoms cam be related to folliculitis which is an infection of the hair follicle. I suggest to see a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile, I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
