General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, greetings! Muscle cramps can be caused by a number of reasons.

Electrolyte level disturbances can be a cause of muscle cramps. The normal potassium levels in the body are 2.4-4 mEq/L. Any discrepancy caused in potassium, sodium (normal range 130-140mEq/L ) or chloride levels ( 90-110 mmol/L) can cause muscle cramps.
In such a case electrolyte rich drinks or potassium rich fruits such as bananas may help.
Another cause of muscle cramps maybe anaerobic metabolism, that is, the way in which muscles produce energy when they are overused or exhausted. Adequate hydration of the body is essential.
