Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Am I Getting Light Headed When Stopping Buspar?
I am taking buspar. I have been taking it for about two weeks. It makes me really light headed. I stopped taking it for about five days because i got sick with strept throat and continued about 5 days ago from today. I would like to stop taking it. when i stopped taking it about the fifth day i got really light headed while i was at a interview.
Buspar is an anti anxiety medication and it helps to face stressful conditions like an interview better. If you want to stop it, you will be able to do it if you change your life style and practise measures to reduce anxiety. This includes eating healthy foods, avoiding smoking, alcohol or caffeinated beverages, exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, practice relaxation technique like Dr. Jacobson's relaxation technique and sleep for 8 hours a day. You should not stop Buspar abruptly but taper the dose and stop.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah, Internal Medicine Specialist
