Why Am I Getting Pain In The Chest While Coughing?

I have had a bad cough for 3 weeks now. No fever, just coughing and conjestion. Every time I cough, I have a pain in my heart. I have heard that when you cough alot, your chest can get sore, but this is only in my heart area. I am only concerned because I have MVP and just want to make sure that I m ok. Is this type of pain normal?

Hello!
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
The way you describe it seems that you had a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract.
This can cause cough for 3 or more weeks.
If you have been coughing a lot is normal to experience chest pain due to muscular spasm.
In my opinion you don't need to worry.

Although mitral valve prolapse is usually a lifelong disorder, many people with this condition never have symptoms. When diagnosed, people may be surprised to learn that they have a heart condition.
If this chest pain would due to MVP you would feel the pain all time not only when you cough.
If this pain get worse and you experience symptoms as below I suggest to consult a cardiologist as soon as possible :
-A racing or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
-Dizziness or lightheadedness
-Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, often when lying flat or during physical activity
-Fatigue

Hope it helped.
Wish you a quick and complete recovery.
