Why Am I Not Showing Positive Test For UTI Despite Of Symptoms?
I have an overactive bladder but the past week I have the feeling of fullness all the time. I got a test kit for UTI and tested positive for leukocytes so made an appointment with my doctor. there test showed no infection but traces of blood were found. She put me on sulfa drug for 3 days and I called her today telling her I still had symptoms. I have an appointment Monday. I took another home test and once again it showed positive. Why am I not showing positive for their test.?
Hi The dipstick test has to be read at appropriate time to show positivity according to manufacturers advice. However the dipstick tests are not confirmatory. Sometimes one can get false positive tests due to concentrated urine or presence of other substances in urine or if early morning sample is used. Please ask you doctor to send a urine sample for microscopy and culture which is confirmatory or rules out UTI. Also please remember that other conditions other than UTI can produce symptoms of UTI.
