Why Did I Black Out After Having The Beer?

27 year old male here, 225 lbs. I drink socially with friends regularily but last week something strange happened. I had 5 beer over 3 hours and basically blacked out. I made a complete fool of myself at a work event and my job is now in jeopardy. I had plenty to eat before going out and I just can't make sense of it. The next night, I had another event to go to and I had 5 beer, 2 shooters and half a vodka cooler in 2.5 hours and I was just fine... and I had just a bowl of soup all day! There is a history of diabetes in my family and I'm not ruling out my drink being spiked the first night as well.... please can someone help me with how I could have possibly gotten so crazy drunk so quickly off just a few beer? It's never happened to me before and I'm scared.

hello,
warm welcome to healthcaremagic.com
1. this phenomenon that you suffered is called pathological intoxication. it is an idiopathic phenomenon, in which even a small amount of alcohol can cause intoxication and can lead to blackouts as well. first night where you had 5 beers you had gone through this phenomenon.
2. however on 2nd night you had a large amount of alcohol in the form of 5 beers, 2 shooters and a half vodka cooler in just 2.5 hrs. so u developed alcoholic intoxication as you had a large amount of alcohol over a short time period which your body could not handle.
3. i would advice you not to have this much amount of alcohol in future, also try not to consume alcohol empty stomach as this also increase alcohol absorption from the gut, increases chances of having intoxication.
4. obviously having a family h/o DM in family, puts you on risk of having DM in future, would recommend try to regulate your alcohol consumption. consult a physician in this regard as well, get your screening workup done for DM as well.
