Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Do I Have Pain Under Ribs After Gall Bladder Removal?
My gallbladder was removed lap. 3 weeks ago today. I have had intense pressure and pain right sided, just under my ribs just right of centre which radiates downward toward right hip bone. I m also having quite a bit of belching and indigestion. The surgeon checked my incisions and palpated the area after I described the pain 1 week ago. He stated it should subside and feel better each day. I find it is getting much worse. I feel the pain worsening during bowel movements. I had a severe episode of vomiting 3 days post surgery and wondered if I had pulled something. I was admitted to ICU for 2 days post surgery due to previous heart/breathing issues. Any insight would be appreciated.
I suggest you should take a second opinion from another surgeon. This can be due to some infection or poor healed surgery. Are you also having indigestion and vomiting. There may be liver weakness. I would recommend you to get liver function test as well. Avoid fatty foods. Try to do little exercises. Avoid weight gain. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
