hi i am am a 50 year old woman healthy in most respects , i have had 4 stomach ulsers in the last 4 years they are treated with omeprazole amoxicillin and metronidazole for a week and they go away but re emerge again , any idea why i keep getting them
Recurring peptic ulcers can be a sign of stomach cancer or gastrinoma - a tumor which secretes gastrin. However gastrinoma should also cause severe diarrhea. It is also possible that you have to short treatment with Omeprasole or you do not react well for this medicine and another one (like Pantoprasole) should be tried in higher than regular dosage. The treatment should take a month. After a month, gastroscopy should be done to see if there was an improvement. If yes, the dosage of Omeprasole or another PPI should be decreased and maintained for few months. If such therapy has been already tried, maybe surgery will be helpful. Please consult a surgeon.
Hope this will help. Regards.
