Why Do I Still Get Mood Swings Sometimes While On Medication For Borderline Personality Disorder?
Hi. I was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and my psychologist put me on Seroquel last Tuesday. I ve read reviews that it helps with BPD. Right now I m on 75mg morning & night (150mg) but I still get mood swings here and there. I read reviews online and some people are on 200-400mg a day and it helps them. What do you suggest?
Seroquel is Quetiapine which a weak antipsychotic, and helps in mood symptoms at times and not always. For disorders like schizophrenia it is usually used in the dosage of 300-400 mg per day. Ideal treatment for Borderline PD would be mood stabilizers like sodium valproate or carbamazepine along with an SSRI like Fluoxetine (Prozac), etc. along with CBT.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Jagadeesan, Psychiatrist
