Why Do Kidney Stones Cause Flank Pain And Dark Urine?

My son passed a kidney stone 48 hours ago, then yesterday he felt he was going to pass another one. He felt he was passing another one because he felt the pain in the same place again. He just called from work and said the pain has escalated to 8-9, and his urine is now dark and cloudy...can you help, please?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Presence of kidney stones and passing it down in urine could result in pain in the abdomen and in the flanks. Passing of dark and cloudy urine indicates there could have been haemorrhage caused due to damaged mucosa in the urinary tract, while passing the stones.
It is advisable to get his urine analysis done along with an ultrasound scan of abdomen to know the status of kidney stones.
Kindly consult Urologist with the report for proper evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
I find this answer helpful
