Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m concerned about my 3 year and 4 months old grandson who is withholding his poop. He has used the toilet on several occasions and we have celebrated this accomplishment, and even rewarded him, but the last couple of days have been really bad days. He starts walking funny (it s obvious that he s pressing his buttocks not to let his poop comes out.) But his anus gets dirty with the excrement, and we need to keep cleaning him constantly. As a result, he gets burned, and complains that his booty hurts. I also noticed that he is not constipated; it seems that he doesn t want to let it out. What shall we do? I babysit him very often because my daughter works a few days of the week. Please help!
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for using HCM. I undrrstand your concern I feel to use toilet is not very comfortable for the baby... or she hasn't accepted the idea of using it. Yes.. his body language does express his unwillingness for using toilet... while elders are constantly pressing him for. It's good that you are baby sitting him many times He needs counselling in a gentle & entertaining way.about advantages of using toilet-how the stools with held troubled his favorite toy &made a target ... made fun of by others... (all in an amusing baby story form) & leave the subject . Now when he expresses that he is trying holing the stools.. gently rwfer to the story... say my baby is good child...take him gently to a potty (colour ful &comfortable for the baby)& keep on telling story/singing songs of his choice. It would help him to make up mind to adopt &start using toilet. Then after gew months introduce usual toilet Thanks
