Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
There are different types of tests available to detect and confirm Syphilis. Some are specific test and confirmatory whereas some are non specific and has prognostic value. In many countries VDRL test became obsolete. In this place they perform Rapid Plasma reaction test. VDRL or RPR remain negative in early disease, prezone or prozone phenomena, technical error, following adequate treatment, substandard equipment, incompetent technician, errors in expressing the results, improper labeling , lysis of specimen etc. TPHA once positive remain positive for ever even after adequate treatment.
