Hi,
Post shingles itch, post shingles
neuralgia occurs in patients with shingles who have persistent
nerve damage after subsiding rashes. This neuropathic condition of itching is caused by
Herpes Zoster virus when they kill or damage the neurons which cause itch and pain sensations. It also may produce numbness along with an itchy feeling. Post shingles itch usually disappears over a few weeks to months, but can last for more than a year or longer.
For relieving itching and discomfort, you can try to some measures and medications like applying cool compresses on affected area, soothing baths and lotions like colloidal oatmeal bath or calamine lotion, applying a cream called Zostrix which contains
capsaicin or extract of pepper, using antihistamines for reducing itching, applying
lidocaine on the affected area, taking antidepressants or steroids may be helpful for relieving itchiness. You can also consult your doctor for treating Post shingles itch.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
