I am a 14 year old female. I play softball and I usually play out in the outfield where there are always bugs. I usually get two to three mosquito bites every game. The last two games I got probably seven or eight mosquito bites just on my right leg. On my other leg I have about seven. My question is how can I take away the itch? And also I was wondering, why do mosquito bites itch?

You may apply Calamine lotion and avoid scratching the bitten area. You may apply Mosquito repellant cream on your legs and arms before you go to play. The itch is cause because of the body's allergic reaction to the mosquito's saliva.
hello katie,
welcome to HCM
you can apply calamine lotion or benadryl cream locally if those areas are not scratched open.
the itching is caused not by the piercing proboscis or the protein in the mosquito's saliva but by the body's immune response to them.
take care
