Why Does My Throat Hurts On And Off Frequently?

I have had this croupy cough for over a year now. It is usually non productive but recently I have been blowing light green phlem through my nose and when I cough the phlem is white or off white. Usually I feel okay with just the cough I have become so used to it that it is part of daily life. However, within the last 2-3 week my throat will hurt on and off. Nothing that is too terrible just annoying. When I go to sleep at night I will have these coughing fits that will cause me to cough up water (no phlem). I have taken Nyquil, and and off brand of some Flu medication and robitussum. Robitussum seemed to help the best at night. I avoid taking medication during the day since even the stuff that is not supposed to make you drowsy makes me either feel loopy or does not help. I also will alternate between being stuffed up and having watery eyes and nose. My head also will alternate between feeling like it is in a vice grip and feeling okay Also for the past week I have had this gross taste in my mouth that tastes like snot. Even after I brush my teeth I can not get rid of this taste. Is this just a chronic case of Sinusitis?

Hello,

Your throat hurts on and off frequently. You have been blowing out light green phlegm from your nose. Cough is annoying at night and interferes with sleep. You also have watery eyes and nose. When the mucus in the respiratory system is blocked, it causes bacteria to accumulate, thereby causing infections. You are coughing green sputum is indicative of bacterial infection leading to nasal discharge, congestion, coughing, sinusitis, etc.

Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, etc. You are suggested to take steam inhalation at least once daily to get relief. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get blood workouts and required imaging tests done. You will be treated accordingly. Get X-ray PNS done to detect deviated nasal septum that is causing you symptoms of sinusitis (chronic).

To prevent throat hurt, gargle your throat with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Take Acetaminophen, one stat to reduce pain and inflammation. You will need a course of antibiotics like Augmentin to control bacterial infection. Take antihistamine at bed time to get rid of cough and discomfort. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
