I have had problems with pituatary tumors most of my life... I'm 52 and have had a total hysterectomy about 1.5 yrs ago due to breast cancer. My Prolactin level is elevated again ( just this past week I had a draw done) I have been taking bromocriptine for some time.(yrs). I want to know since the hysterectomy should i still be taking this? I'm also taking Aromasin for the breast cancer treatment. Why now has my Prolactin level gone back up? I would say my level is probably close to 50 or higher. my last draw in December was 37.
Good day, Noted your concern. There are number of reasons why your prolactin hs gone up. 1) Bromocriptine resistance. 2) Aromasin indced high prolactin. However 50 is not that high and please do not worry about it if you have no breast discharge. (You had hysterectomy as well). Talk to your endocrinologist.
When was the last MRI pituitary done?If you have no pituitary tumour and if no breast discharge, i would consider stoppping bromocripine at your age when fertility issues /periods are of no concern.
