Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Is Gabapentin Prescribed While Recovering From Methamphetamine Addiction?
I have severe and chronic depressive disorder. Also, I am recovering from an addiction to methamphetamines. I do not suffer from seizures, chronic pain, nor tremors. Why would my doctor prescribe 800mgs 3times a day of gabapentin? And why do I feel super disconnected and just generally funky after taking just 1 of my pills? I feel so overwhelmed and confused. Do you have some insight that might help me put my experience into perspective?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Methamphetamines (Meth) are in a class of drugs that act as stimulants on the central nervous system. Meth can cause severe physical, psychological, and behavioral side effects in the short and long term. Most of your actual symptoms are withdrawal or abstinence symptoms and some doctors use various medications to stabilize the brain against the effects of Meth. My advice for you is to go to a specialized Meth addiction treatment center because you need an individualized Meth Rehab Program. Don't worry, all your symptoms will disappear soon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo
