Why Is Geodon Injection Given To Dementia Patient?

I was wondering what the reasoning would be to give my 81 y/o father with dementia 20mg geodon injections? He is also on monthly injections of Haldol and all the information I have researched says not to give with Dementia patient and people on Haldol.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

At present the use of the older anti psychotic medication such as haloperidol (haldol) has been found to be associated with increased risk.

Geodon is one of the newer anti psychotics and a study showed that the use of this type of medication is associated with decreased risks when compared to older meds such as haldol.
In terms of a combination- both of these medications cannot be used at once, serious complications can occur.

I hope this helps

Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern for your father yes injection "Haldol" is not good for the patient of having history of dementia, this could be due to the age, take care.
