Why Is Losartan-HCTZ Prescribed For Elevated Blood Pressure Level?

If my blood pressure was elevated only one time, why would a doctor put me on Losartan-HCTZ 100-12.5 MG Tablets? I have Diabetes Type 2 and my A1C is 6.1? I really don t want to start taking the medication because this is the first elevated blood pressure.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question.

I am glad to help with your concerns.

Well, the first line of management for a one-time elevated blood pressure is dietary and lifestyle modifications which includes reduction of salt intake, reduction of high-calorie intake, increased intake of fruits and vegetables, and exercise.

Drugs are not usually prescribed at first unless the blood pressure is significantly high such as 150/100mmHg.

Adhere to the lifestyle and dietary plans for a month or two and see how it improves.

Although, the drugs are not necessary for now, review with your doctor before you discontinue it.

I hope i have answered your question.

I would be glad to answer more if you have any.

Best wishes.
