Why Is A MRI Advised While With Vomiting And Abdominal Pain?

I was in the ER this evening with vomiting and severe abdominal pain. Dr told me they seen a mass on my pancreas and I needed to contact my family DR to have an mri asap. I asked him if it was cancer and all he would say is get to my pcp and get an mri asap. Should I be worried?!
