Why Is A Blood Test Required For Fungal Infection In Between Toes?
Sure. I have Ben to my dermatologist and he took biopsies a month ago went back yesterday because I had squamous cell he took it off. However he was looking at my toenails because I have to fungus and my two big toes I do believe I have this where I was shampooing my carpet a whole lot because I just got a puppy and my feet stayed wet so he did a blood test and I was wondering why would you do a blood test
Blood test in case of toe nail fungal infection (onychomycosis) is generally done to rule out diabetes mellitus or in some cases immune suppressions due to HIV. Increased blood sugar levels make the body prone to fungal infections which are extensive and very difficult to treat.
Similarly immune suppressions due to HIV/ AIDS also makes body susceptible to fungal infections and hence a blood test is done to rule out the same in patients at risk. In addition to above causes, fungal infections also occur due to decreases local resistance of skin and nails due to prolonged wetness. Stress can also decrease immunity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Manisha Roy
