Why Is A Colonoscopy Required After An Emergency Appendectomy?

3 years ago I had emergency appendectomy. I recently saw the surgeon again who did the appendix removal and he said that I should have had a colonoscopy in follow up to the appendix attack because I am over 40. He said it was an oversight that was forgotten to be booked. He now wants to do the colonoscopy. is there any relevance in doing the colonoscopy procedure now that it is 3 years later?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Colonoscopy after appendicectomy is done especially in adults because in 3 percent patients had cancerous ulcer. Growth or polyps which were on histopathology proved adeno carcinoma. As screening for colon cancer is worth.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. G. L. Sharma, General Surgeon
